My H reg 1991 lwb petrol minibus is revving highly itself whilst driving it?

My H reg 1991 lwb petrol minibus is revving highly itself whilst driving it, and also it back fires loudly when i switch off the ignition, ive changed the filter,plugs oil etc. Whats causing it to back fire and how do i fix it?

Sounds more like a fuelling problem than ignition,especially if it's causing the revs to hang. Check throttle for sticking and siezed linkages ect.
