How do I fix the dirt sensor on my Kenmore Progressive Vacuum?

The dirt sensor light remains in the red at all times, not providing me with the sensing capability. How do I fix it?

need to clean the optical lenses. they may be dirty. remove the bag and inside the machine, wipe with a clean dry cloth. they recommend doing this whenever you change the bag
