I am unable to timer record as the clock does not move on I have reset it many times by following instructions in manual but it just stays at the time it has been reset at.
Please help the machine is barely 18 months old waranty has expired
Maplins UJ02c is a 32.768KHz crystal, and now that I've dismantled the recorder (you have to get everything else out before you can remove the motherboard) I can see that the thin silver cylinder under where the DVD RAM drive belongs is a 32.768KHz crystal. So I guess that's the one.
I'll re-solder the joints now in case it's a dry joint - else it's 50p at Maplin's tomorrow!

Which of the four crystals on the motherboard do you mean?
The SA 4.43361 near the front? (My preference)
The pair (cuboid & thin cylinder) under the DVD RAM?
The SY 18.432 at the back?
Or is there something hiding in the front panel?

99.999% certain that this is the crystal oscillator that has failed.
Toshiba pt.no BY 633003, or from Maplins UJ02c.
if you are good with a soldering iron do it yourself,if not then let a competent engineer do the job.
