How to fis a drum problem in Hotpoint Aquarius 1100 washer/dryer?

I have a 9 year old Hotpoint Aquarius 1100 washer/dryer in which the drum is not moving. I thought it might be the belt so I removed the back cover and found that the belt is intact but the motor is not moving. There doesn't appear to be a smell or anything from the motor which might suggest that the motor is not knackered. The dials on the front of the machine work OK. Any ideas what the problem might be or is the machine fit for the scrapheap?

this is usually an easy fix! first check the motor wires which are held onto the side of the machine with a cable tie and can break, then check for either an inline fuse or a fuse on the timer. if both these ok then it sounds like simply a set of brushes ! push the tub to the left hand side of the machine and on the side of the motor you'll see a little black insert about an inch and a half long with a wire attached to a spade on top. remove the spade and on the bottom of the brush holder you'll see a little black locking tag lever this up with a flat dumpy screwdriver clear of the motor casing and the brush will simply slide out! do the same on the other side of the motor . slide in new brushes they come with holders, taking care to push in gently and straight so the carbon insert doesnt skip to the side and break, push until you hear a click confirming the lock has engaged, refit the spades onto the holders and thats thats ! all for about £ 6 !
