I have a upright frost free Brandtz freezer about 6 years old. About 1 wk ago it did not seem to be freezing very well. Eg put bread and ice cream in and still not frozen properly 8hrs later. I have manually defrosted it for 48 hours (lost most of my food). Most concerned about the smell (gassy/plastic) Any ideas greatly received.

If it smells of gas sounds like the refridgerant(gas) is leaking...bye bye freezer unless you get the site of leak repaired and recharged,,not really cost effective.
