Retiming instruction of singer 8280 machine?

hellow,
We having the problem in our machine that it breaks the needle every time when we try to sew. Do you have any idea to fix it by myself. Thanks

RETIME ALL MAKES EXCEPT SINGER

Select straight stitch.

Take off the needle plate and take out the bobbin if you have a drop in bobbin, it will be easier to see the point of the hook.

Take out the bobbin and bobbin case if you have a side loading or front loading machine and lower the gate by moving the two clips, you can now see the hook which is the half moon shape with the point.

If you have a rotary raceway you won't have the two clips so do not worry you won't have to take the hook out.

Take the bottom off the machine so you can see under the raceway, if you have a two piece body machine you will need a shop retime.

If you have to undo any connectors to a computer board then leave it alone, static from your body can blow the boards, it will be a shop job unfortunately.

Turn the balance wheel towards you so the needle goes all the way down and then starts to go back up, stop, look at the point of the hook, it should be just above the eye of the needle and slightly past, if it is not and you have a front loading bobbin case or a top loading bobbin case you will need to slacken off the screws on the vertical gear, you can now turn the point of the hook to where it should be, if you have a side loading bobbin you need to slacken off the screws near the raceway.

Tighten the screws back up and put the bits back so you can test sew, if it sews okay on straight stitch test it on wide zig zag, if it misses stitches you will need to retime it again, move the point a bit more clockwise, you may need to do this several times until you get it right, make sure you put a new needle in first.

Remember that you are doing a job of a skilled mechanic so you must be very patient.

Hello Inderjit,
If you have put a new needle in the correct way round and the needle is hitting on the raceway as you sew then the chances are the machine needs retiming, you can either send it to your dealer for repair or I can send you the information on how to retime the machine, you will need a set of allen keys and you will need lots of patience, e-mail me if you want instructions drivewithken@blueyonder.co.uk
Remember to remind me of your machine model.
Ken
