turn off copyright protection?

Hi: I have an older (mid-80s) Panasonic Omnivision TV (pv-m2021) that has a built-in video player. I bought a DVD player (Go Video, DVP853) , and the copyright protection makes the screen go very dark every few seconds. I have been told that it is becaues the DVD signal somehow has to go through the video player --? I tried the RH box or whatever it's called, and it didn't do a thing. Does anyone have any suggestions?

it's called macrovision you can get a box from maplin that does away with it or you could try one of the online sites to disable the protection via the remote
