My Jaguar kb-900 is not responding, but I can't find the reason!?

I recently received a never-been-used Jaguar kb-900 sewing machine as a gift. After removing it from the box & checking all the parts, I noticed that, while turning the side wheel, nothing seemed to move. After plugging it in, testing the bobbin winder, the foot pedal & all I could think of, the needle still didn't respond. I've even taken off the cover to the lamp & peered inside to see if the belt is working, which it is, but I can't seem to see anything else. I've tried taking more of the plastic shell apart, but the screws are in so tight it actually ate my screwdriver! Now I know this machine is probably 9 years old, but it's odd that everything seems to work perfectly except this one thing, and it's been impossible to find any info online about it (well, that isn't in Japanese). I'm going to attempt to take it apart again... after I buy a new screwdriver, that is, but I thought I'd see if anyone has any suggestions! Thanks in advance!

It seems as though the stop motion is jammed, you should have a stop motion wheel in the middle of the balance wheel which you turn anti clockwise to stop the machine working to wind a bobbin, turn the wheel clockwise so it tightens up, if it does not tighten up let me know, drivewithken@blueyonder.co.uk
