how can i disengage child lock on my lg dvd player?

I have an LG DVD-VCR combo. The display shows child lock on. I have tried pressing the child lock button on my remote but nothing happens.Remains locked. Any suggestions please?

Hold the lock button on the remote for about 5 seconds and then wait for the key to dissapear
