I havea chi hairdryer that the heating element has gone out in?

I need to replace the heating element in my chi hairdryer. i have had it over a year so the warranty is void. i need a 800 number to call to find out where i can send it for repair
BRANDY CALDWELL, November 2007
I called the toll free number. Yes, they will replace it for $35 but it has to have no sign of being taken apart. I took mine apart thinking mine had the issue everyone else talked about with a wire being detached. Mine did not have that issue, the heating element simply went out. Because I told the representative that I had opened it to see the problem, they will not replace at all. Mine had visible signs that it had been taken apart. Mine was very hard to pry apart, took a screwdriver to wedge it apart which left visible marks at the seam. Will never buy another Farouk product. My dryer was only 3 years old and had very little use. Will be purchasing another brand. $130 waste, now it's expensive landfill.

Heating element out. POS hairdryer. Not buying any more of these expensive hairdryers!!!!

Actually Im trying to find out what type of a screwdriver you used to open it bc mine has triangle type screws in it.

You should look for high quality products. There's one hair dryer that is highly recommended, it works amazing and it's very gentle. It's called "Karmin G3 Salon Pro Professional hair dryer".

I went out, bought a soldering kit- came home, took my entire dryer apart. After thoroughly looking it over and confident that none of the connections had come loose, I cleaned out the dust and debris that was covering everything.
Put the dryer back together and the heat was working again! I've had this dryer for 7 or 8 years and was almost ready to buy a new one, but really didn't want to.

I read the post about fixing the heating element wire so i checked to see if that was the problem and it was, a small wire leading to the heating element had come off so i just soldered it back on and it works great. Super easy fix. My wife was very happy. LOL.

i guess Chi dryers are nothing but junk, i dont see where it says we can send in $35 and get it repaired or replaced..as i've had mine longer than a year, but i dont blow dry my hair everyday or even everyweek, so for it to go out in 14 months with such seldom use, is a testament to their poor quality.

I found on another site the solution to cold hair only on Chi.
Press the cold shot button- and on my 1 year Chi, the hot air
Begin.
Thank goodness I did not just toss away before I found this easy solution.

Don't bother repairing it, it's much cheaper to purchase a better hair dryer that won't break within the year. Chi hair dryers are known for their short life-span, I recommend investing in a Karmin Salon Pro Professional hair dryer for fast drying and healthy styling. It's much better than chi and has a 3yr guarantee.

If you are feeling brave or know someone with a soldering iron, it is normally just one little teeny wire in the shaft that needs soldered back and you are good to go......its fairly easy to take apart and do yourself...

The quality is just not the same. Most recent CHI purchased 3-2011 and the heating element went out just 7 months later. The dryer sparked in my hand while I was drying my wet hair (safety issue). Replaced it with the same CHI model and the NEW dryer did not heat either! Since I only had it for 24hrs I was able to return it to ULTA. I still have the receipt and box for the dryer purchased 3-2011 but not sure if I should take a chance and spend more money in shipping and repair costs or cut my losses. I have also called local repair shops but they just recommend buying a new dryer. Either way I am going with the Brand that my hair dresser recommended.

Do not buy a Chi. THe heating elements go out often, and there is no recourse for repair - even if you are willing to pay for it. They have a limited warranty (1 year) if you keep you receipt. I won't be spending my money on any Chi products - my hair dryer is a year old, and will have to be thrown in the trash. Not a good use of $100.

i bought a chi hair dryer also. it was $150. on sale at a salon and and now smells like its burning, it is 1 1/2 year old & well maintained. i think i check into local repair, then just get another brand-my old conair has been around 16 years!

Dont buy Chi any more

I just had the same thing happen it was a gift and over a year old. I did call the number on this site and was told no longer is there a repair center and since no receipt and over a year old no replacement. I stated I'm happy to pay to get this repaired and she explained they no longer provide that service even if it is paid for. WOW !! $100 blow dryer a year old very short hair so very short useage and no help to get any type of repair.

Julie Gregurash, November 2010
Mine just did this too?? what did you do?

lisa, November 2010
how or where do i send it to get fixed? it was store bought at a beauty supple store and i do not have the receipt.

dana, September 2010
Below is the info, plus it states that if you have had it for more than one year you can send a check for $35 and they will fix or replace it.
