Is my TV an HD ready TV?

I have a Toshiba 50H72 TV, bought in 2003. I'd like to buy my boyfriend a PVR for Christmas, and am looking at the type that also functions as an HD converter. I've reviewed the owner's manual that came with the TV, and it doesn't really SAY anywhere that it's HD ready; but it does have 2 video input settings called "Colorstream HD1" and Colorstream HD2". Does this mean, that if I buy the HD-PVR that I'm looking at, my boyfriend can watch all those HD sports channels he's lusting after?

You don't say what country you are in but if you are in the UK then the question becomes academic as Freeview does not transmit in HD and so an HD PVR will be a bit of a waste. The only way currently to view broadcast HD in the Uk is via Sky.

If you are in another country then Tosh claim that the TV is 'HD Ready'. It appears to get it's HD input via 2 Sets of ColorStream® HD Component Video Inputs (Y, Pr, Pb) so you need to ensure that any input device like a PVR can output to Component Video. In other word when buying the PVR ask the sales person whether it will work with your TV.

BTW believe it or not using Component Video is quite old fashiuoned now as most sets use HDMI.
