Potterton Kingfisher II boiler - pilot light goes out?

I have relight the gas pilot on my Potterton Kingfisher II boiler by pressing the "ignition/Star" symbol. However if i let go the black knob after a minute or two - the pilot goes off? Turning the knob quickly (when the pilot is lit) to the flame position does not help to keep it lit. How can i make the pilot stay lit?

pilot went out now cannot light pito has a short so took out braket and tried to light it manually

The flame failure thermostat may not be in the pilot flame path or the pilot light may not be as high as it should be (Claen Pilot Jet) or the thermostat needs replacing

Possibly requires a new thermocouple.
