Hi Matt, hopefully this is a surplus answer and you have got your box working again.
A few questions, is it a new box you have just bought or has it been in storage and youve just plugged it in again?
When you first switch the box on does it allow you to switch it from standby (red light) to sky by pressing the sky button on the remote?
What type of sky box is it. Ie is it sky+, HD, standard digibox.
When was it last working and has anything happened since then, ie have you been doing diy, moved cables, etc since then?
Sometimes when they stick on standby its because the internal drive in the box is kaputt. So it just wont let it switch on again, however, some types of box are known to have this issue. There is a way to work round it and do a forced download of software to your box but I need to know what type of box it is before i can help im afraid.
If you can answer some of the many questions ive got above ill see what i can do to help.
