How to delete a corrupt file??

This is the problem: I was trying to download a file in an attachment in an email from a friend, when the download stopped and the file wasn't completed. The half downloaded file saved to the desktop, and now when I try to delete it, it continues to give me the message "Cannot delete "Front Chest.png" it is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again."

The problem is obvious. No other programs are using this file! And now, my computer seems to be having constant problems. Etc: All the icons on my desktop disappeared, I cannot attach things to emails without the computer freezing, etc.

I'm not sure what to do. Can anyone help?

I had a similar problem. If you are using windows XP or similar, start in SAFE mode (press key F8 I think during boot up) and it gives a few options... Safe Mode, Safe mode with networking, MS DOS, Last Known working configuration etc. Select SAFE mode and it will boot up as normal but with minimal drivers used. Select the item and delete it as normal. Then restart the PC and boot up as you normally would. If this does not work then do the same again but start it with Last Known Working Configuration. This will undo the damage providing it hasn't gone to far.

Sorry, this site does not seem to allow forward slashes - but you get the idea

Start your pc in dos, navigate to the desktop and delete it that way. For example:
C:windowsdesktop [ENTER]
del frontc~1.png [ENTER]

The actual path depends on your PC.
