why does my Fisher Paykel washer whine a few times through the cycle?

My Fisher Paykel washer (bought around 2000) will periodically whine through the cycle. We had, I believe it was the pump, replaced twice on it. We had some problems with the fact that the drainage for the machine is a little above it (old plumbing). The repair guy that came out tried three different times to resolve the problem, but failed. He recommended elevating the washer, which we did. This seemed to solve the drainage problem, but in the last three or four months the machine will whine intermittently during the cycle. The repairman went out of business (gee, I wonder why). The whining does not seem to affect either the cycle, the drainage or the quality of the clothes cleaning. We would like to know what's up and if it requires repair that we couldn't do ourselves. We lover our Fisher Paykel machine. We bought it because it was supposed to be very sturdy and didn't require a lot of expensive repairs. Any ideas?
