I have one of these, and had a similar problem. I took out the brew unit, removed the metal disc filters (they become blocked with tiny little stones from the beans). Pop the blocked holes with a fine pin and clean the discs before replacing in the brew unit.
Run a Cleaning cycle (tablet in the ground coffee dispenser making sure ot actually goes in the brew unit because it can slip out and go it to the dregs drawer) as per the manual. Do this a couple of times, maybe 3. There should be loads of coffee gunk expelled. The more you get out, the cleaner it will be. When this is finished, run a decalcify cycle (decalcifier in the water reservoir, open the nozzle into a bucket or such like). if you have good quality descaler it should only need doing once.
Last of all, run another load of fresh water through, run another cleaning cycle, then it should be flushed. Make a coffee and discard, make another one it should be OK

Switched the machine on after a period of about 3 weeks, The message "Ventilate" appeared. I have never seen this before. Referred to manual which said open the steam/hot water valve and let about 10 cups of water run through. I tried this .....and nothing happened. The Ventilate message was still displayed. After a lot of thought, I switched the machine off and left it an hour. When I tried again, immediately after switch on, I was able to draw off water through the steam nozzle until the ventilate message disappeared. There must be some sort of overtemp or high temp limit switch which prevents the water pump from working if the machine is too hot. All working fine now.

OK, have spoken with Siemens Techncial and they are coming to pick ours up for repair as even after 10 cups of hot water through the funnel, to clear the VENTILATE message, nothing happens. Apparently there is a sensor close to the funnel which may be faulty and they are going to replace it for us. Sorry couldn't be more help. Will keep you aprised.

Well I have the very same problem and it says in the manual to fill the watertank, put a large cup under the single steam spout and turn the steamer dial anticlockwise. I have filled 10 cups and emptied the water tank and it still requests a VENTILATE. I work for Siemens so will ask our technical lot what to do..will let you know.
