Kenmore 80 series How to washer top off?

When it gets to the rinse/spin cycle it stops. How do you take the top off to get at the lid switch?

Hi Merry,

Got to this late, sorry. Your welcome, and great job opening the washer and fixing the problem! Thanks for responding back.

This was post was extremely helpful!!! Till today, I hadn't had any problems with my washer. My past experience with a previous washer was relatively basic, and I could access any thing I needed to by removing the panel off the front of the washer. I was scratching my head this afternoon, trying to figure out just how I was going to remove the cabinet. The instructions were right on the money! Thanks to a Google search, I stumbled across this site, and found this post. Thanks for all the help. (By the way, I removed the cabinet, so that I could replace the motor coupling. It broke while a was trying to wash a large load of bath towels)

Merry's answer is spot on. However I think to get the 2 metal clips off it would be easier to reach underneath the top through the lid area(move the drum out of the way if needed), pull the clip forward then up, it will pop outta there like a pop-tart. :)

PS. Great site, keep up the good work.

If your model is a direct drive model the entire cabinet is removed in one piece. You first have to remove the plastic moldings on the ends of your console (If your machine has them.) Then you have to remove the screws at the end of the console and bend it toward the back. Then you disconnect the lid switch right near the console. Take a screwdriver and bend those 2 metal clips toward the back to release them. Finally, grab ahold of the cabinet and pull forward and the whole cabinet should come off. There...I think that covers it.
