Can a DVD player that skips (video & sound) be fixed?

Recently, my DVD player (JVC) started skipping on every disk I try to play (new, old, rentals, etc). I have tried a "cleaning disk" that has a little brush underneath that supposedly cleans the laser lens? It did not work. Can the player get fixed? Is it something I can clean better by taking it apart?

hi stephen, you will need to take this apart to clean the laser by hand/cotton bud & cleaning fluid but do not touch the laser(hand/finger's) else you will need a new laser, once you have removed everything & the laser is visible put cleaning fluid on the bud & gently brush over the laseronce you have done this, let it stand for about five min's then try a dvd making sure the disc is clean aswell, upon disc working unplug everything & replace all part's, best of luck steve
