500w pir floodlight sensor not working?

Ive just purchased a 500w pir flloodlight , when connected as per the instructions the light comes on and then goes out(with no movement, after 1-2 minutes), no matter what i do in front of the sensor after that, it wont switch back on. The bottom of the sensor has a photcell which is covered up for daytime usage. Each time i turn the interior switch off ,then on it does come on, but not via the sensor. the make is homebase

I had the same daylight testing problem as above, but at night it seems to be working anyway. Weird!?

I have the same problem but with the homebase 150w pir. I took the first one back and got a new one. It still wont work in daylight mode. The idea is with the photo electric cell covered the light thinks its dark and allows you set up the PIR. you then take of the photo cover and it goes into auto mode ready for the night time. Guess either they all have a fault or we are missing some instruction. I am going to wait until tonight to see if it works.

We have had a few PIR floodlights and after a time they dont work do i need to replace them or would i need a replacement sensor.

when you initially power up a pir floodlight it will illuminate for a length of time then go out-this proves the light fitting.
i guess the "sensor" you mentioned is the pir?
confused over pir and photocell cos photocell when covered would simulate darkness and light would turn on,pir would not turn light on as it would already be lit.
is there an option to use either photocell or pir.
check setup section of instructions.
would be helpful to see controls and options.
wiring may be correct.
