My Kenmore 90 Plus Series washing machine spins slow/sluggish and makes a clicking noise as it spins. What's the fix? Model number is 110289422890

I had a similar problem with the clicking noise. I tipped the washer over and took off the 2 motor mount clips with screws and the plastic pump assembly with mounting snap clips. The motor pulled apart from the base plate and I was able to get to the motor coupler. It removed with minimal effort. I purchased a new coupler ( 3 pieces ) at Sears parts center and replaced the coupler. I did find black "dirt" around the area of the coupler. After I put everything back together and noticed that I had great difficulty in turning the motor shaft with the coupler in place. The motor mounting clips pulled down the motor onto the coupling so much so that I had trouble moving the shaft. When I ran a wash load, I smelled an electrical burn odor that was fairly strong. I am concerned about the motor or whatever overheating and causing a fire. I have a theory that the replacement rubber "gasket" may be thicker than the original one and it puts more load on the motor. Also, where did the black "dirt" come from? I am concerned that I did NOT put everything back the way it was. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you can try to run the washer with the cover off in spin mode to locate where the noise is comming from. Something could be caught between the inner basket and the tank perhaps.

Hey JP thanks for the response. It seemed to work fine in wash mode and didn't click. I opened it up and looked at the motor coupler. It is worn but doesn't appear to be broken. I could turn it pretty freely in both directions although in one direction it did stop.

How is it in the wash mode? It's possible that you have a broken motor coupler. A pretty simple fix on these washers.
