How can I fix my Aiwa HV-FX7700k VCR - no high speed RW or FF?

My vcr has stopped working properly, firstly it chewed up a tape whilst trying to rewind which was tricky to get out. I have had the top off to see if there was anything in it but nothing obvious. It will play tapes and FF and RW at slow speed - tape playing speed but not at high speed. Also seems to record OK. If I press stop then FF or RW it makes a few noises then does nothing for 10 secs then engages the slow speed FF or RW. All the cogs look to be moving freely, any ideas? I have had the player about 2-3 years - just out of warranty!

Andrew,

I see your problem was back in July 2004.
Did you solve the problem or just bin the VCR.

I have a problem with my AIWA HV-FX7700K - won't release a tape, won't respond.
If someone fixed it for you I'd be interested to know what happened.
