will a 1000 watt light wire safely through a 10 amp rated switch please?

Depends on the voltage!
Power = Voltage x Current
So 1000W divided by whatever your voltage is gives the current.

if is a halogen light then yes a 10 amp fuse is ok and a 1.5mm cable will be sufficient
