OUR OLD RCA VCR HAD THIS I JUST UNPLUGGED IT FOR A FEW MINUTES, IT NOW WORKS AGAIN

I would like to add a thank you to WFDFIRE!!! The solution of new batteries for the remote control and then pressing *and* holding the VCR button on the remote control worked for my GE VCR Plus, model VG4065.
Who would have guessed that weak batteries in the remote control would have locked me out of using the VCR, ie putting the VCR in "Safe Mode"....

Make sure you have fresh batteries in the remote then press and hold VCR button until the SAFE disappears from the display.
