how to remove the center axle cap on the Murray riding lawn mower 42" cut?

The cap is loose but to pull on it does not good nor does pulling and turning. I do not want to break it. so I have not tried to put a plier onit to pull it off. 2003 model.

Any axle cap have barbs that are meant to hold it on the axle. Carefully cut these barbs with a hacksaw, being careful you do not cut into the axle too. Once the barbs are cut, pry off the cap with a flat head screwdriver.

The chances are, this plastic cap is only covering a circlip which holds the wheel onto the axle. The cap is able to rotate on the circlip as its this that holds it on so thats normal. Prise it off carefully with a broad blade screwdriver. If you can warm the cap up somehow there's much less chance of it splitting.
