Air Compressor kicking breaker?

I have 2 air compressors that when plugged in they will kick the breaker everytime, no matter what circuit they are on. They are 120VAC. They may run for a few seconds but then they kick the breaker out. Any ideas. I could only think that the armature is bad or touching the field.

I think you need to check the rating of the breaker first - maybe its a low current one? To calculate the current consumption in amps, you take the total wattage of the machine and divide the mains voltage into it. Example - a 3000w kettle, using a mains voltage of 250 volts uses a total of 12 amps. Any circuit breaker less than 12 amps will automatically trip out.
