How can i fix my Renault Megane 1999 1.6 16v coupe radio display?

The previous owner had a panasonic cd player installed and he replaced it with a factory fitted cassette player prior to me buying it.the problem is the lcd display for the radio is not working which makes it difficult for me to input the radio code.its got the steering audio remote which i have to use for code input.
Can someone please tell me what/where the problem could be.

thank you

Hi guys. I hope you can help with a similar query. My LCD display works very erratically with only portions of each digit illuminating. (The clock side does not work at all). It has been like this since I bought it.

From the threads, It looks like I have to check the bulbs/connections but I dont have any idea how/where. I dont even have an owners manual!

If anyone can help, I would be most grateful. Will happily cover the cost of postage for Manuals etc. that could be copied.

this is kind of another question related to the same thing, but if anyone can help it would be great, my megane coupe has the original stereo and 6 disk cd changer fitted by renault, but again the display does not work, it could be a bulb but i dont know how to access it to find out manual is unhelpfull, also mileage clock is very very dim. i have had a problem with foot wells filling with water which seems to have stopped could it be a damp problem, im guessing yes it could but again how do i diagnose this and fix it?.... how i wish i had studied mechanics lol

Does the temp display work? if so then the previous owner may have added a steering wheel remote converter. If this is the case then he will have removed the plug from the back of the display and fitted a conversion lead to the plug. Remove this lead, and plug the original lead into the rear of the display.

please make sure the bulbs which are in the back of the display are working ok ,then remove the radio and check the connection it might not be compatable for your radio, also it would help if you now any one with the same year megane, because then you could swap and try each others units which is the easy way to diagnose the system .
