I have a Panasonic DVD recorder DMR-EZ25EB, when switichng it on the code U61 appears but the starts to complete a self check - this never completes and tells me to switch off via power button and swith on again but nothing has changed. How can I fix this?

There is a picture underneath the error code and volume just can't press any other buttons when this message on, if i press return it also switches the unit off

I did what BOZO4154 suggested in July 2008 Put a blank disc in the machine follow the normal instructions about self check it should come back to normal mode. This has just happend to me and it worked 15/9/08.

I believe this is acommon fault on these machines. A simple & cheap repair job involves changing a blown chip which any repair shop should be able to do for you. Ask the right questions first though just to make sure you don't get ripped off :)
