How can I fix a household electric fan?

I had this fan running non-stop for a couple of days - eventually it "died". How do I check what the problem is and how can I fix it?

Check for continuity, the cord, switch,u can use the cord after the switch to check for continuity on the coil ,take the fan apart check for a fuse,if blow change & check for broken wire.if there are no fuse check for burn or broken wire on the coil.Release the current in the capacitor & check if good.Donot start the fan untill assemble.

Fan stop working, but humming on three speeds, take apart, clean bushings front & back, slightly oil bushing area.Reassemble, lock bolts evenly around coil then start. if still humming change bushings.

try moving the fan blade and if it hard to move take it apart to wheree you can get some oil on it at the end pieces wher the bearings are and keep playin with it til it frees up ans retry

Codi, if you have a multi meter or a test lamp check the continuity from the plug to the fan motor side of the control switch. If you have continuity then the motor is stuffed and it would be cheaper to buy a new fan than rewind the old motor. if you dont have continuity tnen check to power side of the switch. if you have continuity ,then the swtch is stuffed. you could buy a new switc or take a switch from another fan that doesn't work. if you dont have continuity here , the fault can only be in the plug. change the plug. if the unit is old then just buy a new one. they are very cheap these days.
