This DVD player is unreliable with the added bonus of being a fire risk. Three months after purchase my unit started freezing after around one hour of use. Having opened it up I was surprised it had not gone into meltdown sooner, the air inlets next to the power supply board are not enough to allow a reasonable airflow into the unit. Then I found that where there should be a fuse on the power supply board there was instead a wire link, no chance of that unit ever failing in "safe mode" should a fault occur, more likely to cause a fire.
These units do not meet European standards so should not have the "CE" mark on them. My advice to you is to bin the unit or ensure that your fire insurance is sound. Do not leave it in standby when you go out or when you go to bed. It may well be that all units are not like mine but do you want to take that chance?
Asda need to ensure that the products that it sells meet European standards by employing their own engineers to evaluate each and every electrical product that it retails, especially if the product is manufactured outside the European Economic union.
The old saying rings true here .... you get what you pay for.
