GE Spacemaker model JVM1443BK02?

GE Spacemaker microwave (less than two years old) has just begun to run spontaneously without warning. Also, the turntable mysteriously stopped working.
What is wrong??
Gerry Hofler, May 2008
1. Display is normal
2. It heats up normally, but the exhaust fan is not working and the turntable runs very slow.

PS: When it fails the display goes blank, and the unit shuts completely off.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information at our site.

This is likely to be one or more of these problems:

- bad door switch or loose / broken door switch mount
- sticking keypad
- failing turntable motor

The key questions are:

1. When it runs by itself, what is shown on the display? Is the display the same each time?

2. Is it actually heating when it runs by itself, or is it a case where the inside light and cooling fan are coming on, but nothing else?

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

At our site, we now have a video available showing how to remove the grille and a typical control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you need further help, I would urge you to scan and e-mail me the schematic / wiring diagram page from the mini-manual (we don't have the one from that model).

With that, and with the answers to the above questions, I should be able to give you more detail.

I can also send you helpful info on replacing the keypad yourself, if that's called for.
