How can I fix flakey walls after taking down wall paper?

How can I fix flakey walls after taking down wall paper? We have just taken down wall paper and put an undercoat on, but whilst painting the walls kept flaking. How can we fix this????

I removed my wall paper and had the same problem. My plaster was really sound but there was flakey old emulsion left. I used Nitromors textured paint remover. You apply it and use a scraper. It has worked a treat, I was going to have to pay to have the walls re-skimmed otherwise.

Get some PVA wood glue.Mix it with water to the consistency of milk then paint the whole surface, leave to dry then paint as normal.
