As its decorators paint what better place to ask.


Decortators 1lt acrylic white primer is cheaper by around half per ltre than artists gesso canvas primer which is also acrylic, is there a black dye that can be added to the decorators white primer to use as a black under painting/primer on canvases/boarding. Most of the lesson paintings I am doing require a black under painting for effect and shops I've approach give me a blank 'I don't know' look.

Solved it found local store that sell cheap gesso the real stuff for art boards/canvas. Now have to stop painting every board/sheet/canvas black.
Artist know having black background surface eliminates having to add the 'darks' in areas of lots of trees/shrubs,bushes. For those who want to see what effect it does look up in search engine How to paint a waterfall in oil.
