Our Pfaff 1471 is experiencing little if no pressure on the foot drop. With the lever in the downward position, it will come down if pulled by hand, and one can sew by applying pressure downward onto the mechanism once it is in place. Additionally, we can't seem to figure out how to get "into" the body of the mechanism to see what's wrong.
Thank you, dwk, we appreciate the help. Is there a secret to removing the face plate? The two screws at the top of the unit (under the top lid) don't seem to be enough to release the plastic piece.

Hello Jack,
A small amount of WD40 on top of the presser foot bar will help,you need to take the faceplate off to check to make sure the spring has not broken.
