Is there a way to make a SONY DVP-NS575P CD/DVD Player play copies?

My brother just had some old home movies put on DVD's and gave them to my mother for her birthday along with a DVD player. This *#*%#$%^ SONY DVP-NS575P CD/DVD player won't play them. Two questions: Is there a way to make them playable on this DVD player, and is there a special way to copy DVD's so that they will play on any DVD player. Thank you.

If the copies are simply of home videos, then your DVD player should play copies ok but may not like certain makes of discs. On this model people usually get good results with DVD+R or RW and also quite often with DVD-R or RW. Try a different make or type of disc.
For copying bought DVD's - for backup purposes only of course, DVDXCopy software works great.
