Yashica FX-2 Shutter Release Stuck?

I was taking a picture and I set the self timer, but when I went to press the shutter release button its stuck. I can't wind film, the timer is loose ( I assume because it is set), and the shutter release button will not press. How can I fix this without taking it in for repairs?

So I just bought this camera 2 days ago and I thought I had to take it in for repairs the first day, However after pushing the timer all the way down then pressing down kind of hard on the button to take a picture it snapped back in place. Hope this helps

WD-40 on a special area. Ive fixed 3 this way. Remove lens, spray only a tiny shot using WD-40 hose in the opening at the bottom of the lens opening that has the lever for the F-Stop.

Sticking shutter at around 1/60 is a common problem. I recently bought an FX-2 at a charity shop for 20 bucks. Mine stuck at any speed! Took off the winder and carefully ran some oil down the shaft, this improved things, but it can still stick at 1/60. It obviously needs a good service. Perhaps Yashica used an inferiour oil/grease than other makers when assembling it. ALL old cameras really need a good service. This costs money, assuming you can find someone who knows how to do it. There are no professional service manuals. But don't give up, these old 35 SLR's are great cameras. I use my collection for 'rough' shoots, motocross etc., as they are the only cameras that will work in the mud and dust, and during harsh winters. Digital sucks when it gets rough.

hey mine does the same thing, you just have to keep taking pics till the shutter unsticks itself.

Is the mirror stuck up? On mine the shutter is not actually open. If you take the lens off and look, see if the mirror is up. I gently pulled mine back down and some how got it to stay. Also maybe try and gently wiggle the shutter button as you press down on it with a bit of preassure, that may work also. I might try and pull mine apart to see if there's a way to actually fix the problem though. Good luck, hope this helps
