Toshiba RD-SX24SB Locking up with E7061?

I have a problem with a Toshiba RD-XS24SB HDD DVD Recorder.
When I plug in the machine and power it up it keeps coming up with E7061 on the LCD.
It is only 2 years old. Over the two years it has come up with a fault whereby I was not able to record onto the HDD and had to reformat the HDD (losing all recorder content in the process).
In the last three months if the machine was idle to about 5 minutes it locked up (there was no error showing – it just froze). In the last month when trying to play while recording content at the same time it also began to lock up (again there was no error showing – it just froze). These last two problems could be overcome by switching off the power at the socket and switching it on again.
I cannot overcome the latest problem E7061 though and the machine is currently totally useless to me.
I’d be delighted to get any help, even if it is to say that this problem is not fixable and I should get a new HDD recorder.

I had this same display with a Toshiba RD-85DTSB DVD Recorder some months ago.
E7061 appears to be Complete Hard Drive failure.
I was able to repair my machine by installing a new (unformatted) 3.5" IDE Ultra ATA Hard drive of the same capacity as original, though from a different manufacturer. Check the installed drive in your machinie first before buying a drive. Set the jumper pins to match the settings of the original drive, usually Cable Select, reconnect to TV and switch on. It should load to normal welcome screen, at this point format the hard drive using set up; usually found on More Settings tab.
Hope it works for you too.
