My VCR will play a tape fine but will not give me any sound although I know that the sound is on the tape as it plays video and audio fine on another VCR. I have not tried to record through my VCR so I don't know if it records properly or not.

if you're using scart plugs thse are ******* useless and can easily lose the audio try jiggling the scart whilst replaying
