dimmer switch did dim lights but now wont /will turn lights on and off?

I installed two dimmer switches in remodled rooms in basement of my house. The switches worked well , after
a couple of months they just turn on and off / no dimming , and the lights are on at full capacity when turned on
note; these are wired seperately, to individual rooms
WHAT IS CAUSING THIS
