How can I speed up my sluggish Toshiba Laptop?

Hi there

My laptop seems to take an age booting up. I have removed redundant software and freed up as much space as possible but it is still slow.

Any Suggestions would be most welcome.

If your HDD spins at 4200 rpm, replace it with a faster unit; 5400 or even better a 7200 rpm model. Maxing out your RAM will improve your operational performance.

In Windows Vista go to administrator tools and start System Configuration. Then go to Startup tab and uncheck any startup files that you don't need. That will allow a faster boot. In XP, I think, you do run/msconfig from the Start menu. I do this occasionally when boot times slow down.

I think this may help you.I had problems with sluggishness also but my model is a different make.I sped up my system by removing many of the applications I that gathered in my toolbar at the bottom of the screen(except the most used ones)and putting them into your desktop or other folder,as when you do any activivity, your processor will go through the whole lot in that toolbar before deciding which utility to use.(slows your CPU down)Hope that works for you.

Assuming Windows XP SP2 or SP3, you PC needs at least 512 MBytes of RAM (memory) to run reasonably. If you have less than that, fit more RAM.
