cd optical drive is faulty?

on my pc's tower i have the two optical drives, the second one for cd's is not loading the cds properly and making very bad noises when it takes a cd. i got the cd out but when the the draw is shut the green light keeps clicking and the computer is trying to do autoplaying and the windows media player is not responding. when i leave the draw out i can use the rest of the computer with no problems, but as soon as i try to put the tray back in it starts the auto playing thing again? please help

It could be a few issues but more than likely the optical drive has seen better days. They are very cheap to replace and easy to fit so just buy another.
