Durabrand PSTB1 freeview box pcb help?

I removed some faulty components from the primary power supply on this board. I struggled a bit with the power ic (ic 601) but eventually got it out. What i failed to notice was the small SMD sitting about 2mm from the end pin, (between the ic and the power input pins). Basically it would seem i used enough heat to cause this component to fall off the board. I didn't notice this until a couple of days later and by then it had long gone. By looking at the board i can see it was a capacitor, (C663). Can anyone help me with info on this part. Type, value, a Farnell U.K. part no. would be brilliant just so i could have a look at it. Thanks in advance.

Hello again boh, sorry for the late reply, been a bit tied up. Anyway, SIX POUNDS EX VAT for the TNY... sorry, but i wouldn't pay that for it.
check out www.farnell.co.uk
Here's a list of part numbers. By the way these parts are slightly different but better spec (so i'm told, you might want to check that out for yourself).

Diodes..........4085043
Caps............9693343
TNY266PN.....9921346 (note the price)
Inductor.......1193637 (original prt No. HYT 30027512)
Fuse............9516182

This is great for letting you have a look at the parts and giving you an idea of prices, but there are two big drawbacks, especially if it's a one off job, and that's..minimum quantities and minimum order.
I think the minimum order with Farnell is 20.00 pounds, no good to me, or to you i suspect. I've already replaced this box with a new one from Comet for 17.99.
I'm only trying the repair as i am trying to get back into electronics and it was a challenge that suddenly presented itself.
All i want is the parts that i need in the quantities that i require. Here's how i'm hoping to do that, maybe it could work for you too.
Where i stay i have Maplins, or a small independent electronics shop that i can go to for bits and pieces. Didn't bother with Maplins went to the other shop and asked if they ordered stock from Farnell, bingo, they did. I explained i needed parts for a repair, some of which were SM, and that i had the part Nos, i then asked if they would be able to order them for me the next time they were placing a stock order and they said yes. That gets round the Min order and postage costs right away. All i need to know now is how much the shop are going to mark up the prices and what they are going to charge me, i should find out in the next couple of days. I'm hopefull, i can't see them charging me six pounds for a part they know i've seen priced at .86p. Anyway i'm rambling on a bit now, sorry about that.
Thanks for confirming the 0805 case style for me.
I'll let you know what happens and in the meantime if you come up with any better sources or ideas let me know.

hi sandy, the 01.uF 50V case style is 0805 (approx 2mm wide by 1mm tall). I had noticed that the T3.15A had blown too. I just checked & those D614- D617 are shorted too, as well as the L614. Do you have a parts numbers for those too? So far I've only found the TNY265P for approximatrly £6 ex. vat. If I factor in for the other diodes & fuse & inductor & capacitors, then its starting too look a bit expensive to repair... Have you found any good sources for the faulty components? Let me know how your repair goes.
kind regards

Hi there boh. I had just about given up on this post, i'm glad i checked back. After reading your reply i had another look at the datasheet for this part and read it properly this time, looks like your right, 0.1uf 50v. Thanks very much for that.
The full part no. of the ic is TNY265PN, datasheet at
http://doc.chipfind.ru/powerint/tny265pn.htm if you cant get that one ive read that the TNY266PN is a suitable replacement.
Just for your information here is what i have found so far on mine.

Radial type fuse T3.15A fuse open circuit.
Diodes D614-D617 all shorted.
IC 601 blown apart.
Inductor L614 blown.
C667 (4.7uF 400V) open circuit
C668 reading 4.4uF but ESR >20 Ohms.

Thanks again for your help and i hope this info will help you. Good luck.

P.S About that 0.1uF 50V cap. I'm guessing the case style is 0805, you wouldn't happen to know if thats correct would you?

hi, I'm trying to repair the same thing, on mine the IC601 below C663 looks blown (as well as the primary capacitor the big 4.7uF 400v ones). I can't read the markings on the IC601 completely as it looks burnt, but from what I can make out its a TNY265P(?) ?=burnt out! can you read it off yours?

From the datasheets of the TNY256P it looks like c663 is a 0.1uF 50V.

I'd would very much appreciate if you can post the full markings on the IC601 if you have it
