How do I fix my Mathmos Space Projector?

How do I fix my Mathmos Space Projector? When I turn it on, it won't light up and makes a soft grinding noise. I sent an email to Mathmos twice in the last two months asking if I could send it to their service center for repair, but got no reply.

If the lamp does not work you may find that it is just the bulb contacts that are corroded. Just clean then with a needle file or emery cloth and you may find that you have saved yourself the cost of a new lamp!

I realise this answer is very late. The fault you describe seems to me that the bulb is blown. The soft grinding noise you can hear is the motor which drives the oil wheel. If you watch carefully you will see it rotating very slowly. So, unplug your projector, remove the six retaining screws around the side. Gently remove the sliding stand. Gently prise the case apart. Unscrew the two screws from the bulb mounting and remove the bulb. You can obtain a replacement bulb from mathmos, or taking note of the bulb specs a suitable replacement can be found much more cheaply on sites such as E Bay. When you have your fresh bulb reassmble

How old is this space projector???
You could try ringing the above weekday number and ask for the head office number. If you get adverse attitude to your problem with the projector inform them you will be sending a letter to a national newspapers letters page telling of your experience dealing with this company and that they seem to have a ''couldn't careless'' attitude rather than ''customer care'' once you made your purchase........that can often get their a...e into gear to help sort it out. Also mention the fact you have emailed them twice in the last two months with no reply. Post on ''answer this question'' on how you get on.
