polaroid pdv-0700?

i have a polaroid pvd-0700. i have had it for close to a year, and it has had ZERO problems.

it has suddenly started having a problem palying movies. i believe the issue is the player is having a problem spinning the movie.

witht he lid closed it sounds like its spinning up, but when i leave the lid open, but hold down the 'im closed' button, i can watch whats really happening.

the dvd does not spin, the sound i hear is the laser moving back and forth trying to get a read.

i did notice that the player was trying to move the dvd, so i decided to help it a bit by spinning it myself.

that does the trick most of the time. but that only works until i let go of the 'im closed' button.

the issue is that even after i help it get going... there is no gaurantee that it will make it through the movie.

so my guess is that what ever mechanism spins the dvd is having an issue.

does anyone know how much that is to fix? or is it something i can attempt to fix myself?

if it is a spin motor issue, that would mean the brushes need replaced maybe?

this is my first portable DVD player and i dont know squat about fixing them.

as a side note i recomended this dvd player to a co-worker, she bought it and had this issue occur with her dvd player after just a few days, she took it back got a replacement, and it happened to the replacement in about a month.

so i am guessing this issue is common with this player?

I own also a 0700. It appeared that it could could not boot up or read the DVD.

I cleaned the head as recommended in a previous link and it still wouldn't play.

Then I noticed a switch on the side where the power plug in and the volume control is. The switch reads "AV in/out" when I changed the switch to the out position the player worked again.

It was like finding a pot of gold. I hope this is the problem with yours.

Good Luck,
Lawrence

Try cleaning the laser lense. If the lense is dirty it will not see that there is a disc in the player, and the speed will be all over the place or not spin at all. I have a Polaroid pvd 0700 and this worked for me. I had to clean it 4 times (gently) with some lense cleaner that I use for eyeglasses. I used a quetip and very little cleaner. Make sure the power is not pluged in.

Scott it sounds like a motor issue, but it wont be a case of replacing the brushes. Your looking at a new motor but it shouldn't cost a packet to buy. But, to be honest, if you don't know what your doing get a quote to repair it or otherwise buy a new dvd player.
