Brake caliper (Ford Galaxy 2.3 2003)?

hi. Just had my car in garage to check rear driver's side Caliper. Guy said £170 for new one but i pressed the caliper with wheel off and brake started working better....can i just clean it all up (how? WD40 etc?) & save £170??? Thanks for help.

Rear caliper's fail because some clot that does'nt understand what they are doing and tightens the hand brake cable to give a hand brake. This works for a time but also stops the rear caliper from self adjusting, eventually failing.Basically the brake never comes off.Striping and repairing works maybe 50% of the time, but usually only a stopgap.Pressing the piston is hardly practical, and would only work till foot pressure is applied.Sorry if you'r the victem of one of these "clots"but replacement is the only reliable solution.Besides,no hbrake,no MOT.
