When we turn the hot water on the heating turns on by itself. how can we make both things work indepedently?

Its probably the 3 way diverter valve. Looks like a plastic or metal box which has a wire coming out of it that sits on the pipework somewhere, possibly in the cylinder cupboard or near the pump. It could be the motor in the box, or the valve itself, I'd change both.
