Hotpoint WMA31; wash cycle keeps pausing and needs prompting?

Our Hotpoint WMA31 washing machine has taken to stopping in between major parts of its wash cycle; ie, it stops after the wash and after the rinse and you have to press the Star/Reset button a few times to move it on to the next part of the cycle.

I figure part of the electrics needs replacing, maybe a circuit card or something but i don't really know a) how to get into the front panel or b) how to work out which part is defective and where to get a replacement part.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Thanks

Hi,
if there is water in the drum when it stops working it could be a blocked outlet hose/filter/sump or a blocked or faulty pump. I had a similar problem on our WMA32. Ours was intermittent, sometimes it was fine, sometimes a real pain! Cleaned out the outlet hose, pump and filter and (touch wood!) it has been fine since .

Are any of the lights on the front of the machine on when it stops?

Say for instance “DOOR LOCKED”, “WASH”, ”RINSE &SPIN” and “FINAL SPIN”, all others off?

If so, fault sounds like “WON‘T PUMP OUT!“ …….. worst case new pump < £20.

I had the same problem with a Hotpoint top loader. So opened the casing noted down the wires on a drawing and bought a replacement timer, I sat a watched it and when it got to the stop point you could see the timer knob trying to move on but jumping back..

Only a guess mind you.
So It's possible it's the timer worn section of the wheels/cogs/cams depending on its make up but it stops until you turn it on to the next section, that was exactly my problem.
