How can i fix my Canon ixus i?

My Canon Ixus i has a fault where it seems not to be able to differentiate between light and day. Horizontal lines appear when taking a picture with the flash on and if the subject is in light then the picture appears white.? Any help would be appriciated.

It is overexposing. Check all the settings carefully and twiddle a few knobs. Might free it up.
