Hi Ian, it sounds like the drain pump is jammed, you will have to take it off and check the inpellor.The first action of the machine on starting is drain so it will fail quickly.You will have to take the right hand side off and the pump is on the base that side. There is a small screw in the side, take that out and then it will gently pull upwards.Large towel required.Spin the impellor to release it and replace.Hope all goes weel. All the best
