loss of hot water?

I recently had a radiator replaced, which necessatated the draining down of the whole system. after refilling the system, I now find that allthough the heating system is OK, the hot water is not working . im told there is an airlock in the main hotwater feed from the back Boiler to the hotwater tank, how do I get rid of this blockage

Thanks Cledyn, unfortunately still no hot water after doing what you advised, all taps giving cold water, the pipes into the tank are cold, but are hot from the boiler (as far as I can reach.
Any more tips

First check your hot water cylinder to see if there is a manual bleed valve just above the uppermost boiler circulating pipe. Most cylinders auto vent these days but you may have an old or converted one.
If there isn't one, switch the CH pump off and close all rad valves upstairs. Now turn your boiler up to it's max on the boiler thermostat. This should force the hot water round the cylinder circuit and push the air lock out.
You can check your progress by checking the temperature of the top circ. pipe at the cylinder.
Don't forget to reset the thermostat afterwards.
