how can i try to fix my usb port myself?

I have a digital camera. usually i can plug up the connector wires to my computer into the usb port on the front of my dell computer. then it will start to import the pictures. now when i do that, my computer says it cannot find the device to import from. i have already tried to reinstall my camera software. and when i go into device manager it says everything is workingo.k. So i think i have a problem with my usb port. what can i do to try and fix it myself?

several options, but easiest is to remove the memory card from the camera and plug it into the PC via a USB card adapter or PCMCIA card adapter.
Faster and less complicated than any other suggestion I might make.
Doubt that there's anything wrong with your USP port.

Start by uninstalling the camera software completely. Go to start setting/control panel and then choose add remove programs. Wait till the list fills and choose your camera software. remove it.
Restart your pc
Then re-install the software and try again with your camera.
